Besides brewing your own coffee at home, have you considered using a home coffee roaster as well? The roasting of coffee beans is one of the crucial aspects of preparing coffee. During this process, the natural green coffee beans are transformed into the coffee beans that create our favorite coffee blends. Specifically, the roasting process infuses the beans with the balance and flavor needed for coffee.  While most roasters are designed for commercial use, you can also find models that are created for homes.

Could you make coffee from green coffee beans? Technically you could, though the coffee would lack the full flavor and aroma of roasted coffee beans. Using a coffee roaster (such as a  home coffee roaster enhances the desirable flavors found in coffee, and boosts the aroma of the beans. Basically, the coffee beans become a feast for the senses!

During the roasting process, the coffee beans experience a metamorphosis, changing from green to yellow, and then to brown. The darkness of the roasted beans often defines the coffee bean "type" that they're classified as, such as light, medium, and dark. The lighter the coffee beans are after the roasting process, the more natural flavors and caffeine they retail.

Why should you consider a home coffee roaster? In a word: freshness! The sooner you brew coffee after the coffee beans have been roasted, the fresher the coffee will be. Beans that are freshly roasted have a distinct taste and aroma, which can't be matched by beans that were roasted elsewhere a long, long time ago.

Another huge benefit of "residential" coffee roasters is that they provide coffee gurus the chance to do some experimenting. This process can involve the roasting times, and the creation of new and exciting flavors. While the price tag is somewhat high, a home roaster for a coffee bean is the ultimate machine for coffee aficionados.

When shopping for residential coffee roasters, here are some characteristics to consider:

1. Cost

While coffee roasters aren't cheap, you can find one at a reasonable price. Make sure to shop around, and compare at least three prices of a particular model. Shop online and offline, to find the best price possible.

2. Features

Which bells and whistles do you want on your coffee roaster? Consider your coffee-making needs, when choosing a coffee roaster. Some available features include being dishwasher-safe, and pre-settings (such as for for slow or fast roasts). You won't necessarily need all of the available bells and whistles available, but you should consider which ones would best suit your needs.

3. Capacity

When choosing a home-style coffee roaster, size matters. If you drink coffee like water, then you'll need a larger capacity roaster. On the other hand, a smaller capacity roaster would be OK if you only drink an occasional cup of java. Keep in mind that larger roasters take up more countertop space.

If you want the freshest coffee on the planet, then consider buying a coffee bean roaster. From start-to-finish, you'll be able to prepare a perfect cup of java!
