I never realized until I started to remodel my kitchen how important the lighting would be. The lights can change the whole mood or atmosphere of your kitchen. The placement of the lights is important, too. While there are lots of ideas out there for lighting I found this article very easy to use and implement the ideas. Energy efficiency is surely an important factor in a kitchen remodel and the lighting is a big part of energy usage. The options for energy efficient lighting is so great, from using the natural lighting available to you, to dimmers for mood and conservancy, even the LED lighting. I like the accent lighting as it can highlight a certain aspect of your kitchen in a way not available without it. I like the idea of track lighting to highlight a frequently used cooking area. I think it would be good to use a kitchen lighting expert to help me plan out my lighting, as they may have ideas I hadn't envisioned.
